PhotoBoard upgrade to 0.3.1 - Multitouch photo browser
PhotoBoard alpha 0.3.1 is now out.
Changes :
- Settings menu enabled (user can change the wallpaper brightness)
- Bring the pictures on top when touched (change layers order)
- Allow user to add photos from a list of thumbnails / names (instead of adding them without selection)
- Allow jpg and png files
- Resize pictures when loading them to improve performance (max bounds are 800x800);
- Keep ratio aspect (for example, if you have a square picture, it will not stretch to 4/3 ratio).
- Some minor graphics improvements
iPod touch user :
Since iPod touch doesn't have a camera roll, you need to manually add the pictures in the /var/root/Media/DCIM/100APPLE/ directory
Todo in next versions :
What would be good for both iPod/iPhone users is to load pictures from photo library like in the Photo.app (iSketch.app has a menu like this so I'm sure it's possible)
I've also noticed than Photo.app has a progressive picture loading. It would be interesting to use it in PhotoBoard to remove loading time.
Libellés : développement, iphone, minority report, multitouch

Great :) Keep up the good job :)

By Anonyme, at 2:44 PM
Awesome update, but maybe program it so that when we double-tap on the picture, it returns to normal size. Keep up the good work,

Bravo !

This is a really great app!
But there is a bug that's annoying (I am using an iPod touch). Pictures that are higher than wide are scaled incorrectly.
An option to close one picture and to close all opened pictures would be a great improvement.
Is it possible to list the pictures in a grid than in a list?
Keep going and this app will replace the standard-photo-app! :)
By Anonyme, at 5:59 PM
I forgot to write that the thumbnails are missing in the list. (still using iPod touch)
By Anonyme, at 6:03 PM
yes the ipod touch is missing the preview pics on the page where you pick pictures from a roll....strange ... what is so different about photo picking on the touch comopared to the iphone ?
By Anonyme, at 6:37 PM
Yeah I confirm that I also can't access the thumbnails, just the name.jpg of the photos using my ipod touch ;)
By Anonyme, at 7:27 PM
amazing app!
i just wish i could zoom to any point in the picture, not just center.
anton.

Its better for sure. But I have the ipod touch and the upgrade kinda disappointed me because i have to do things which i don't know how to do to properly use it. I managed to get my wallpaper picture but thats it. I dont know how to do what you described. Maybe sort out getting the pictures from photo like you said and it would be better.
Also a close option for pictures too. I was so excited about the upgrade cause the idea of it is fantastic. But I can't use it. Sorry for the not so great comment

Hello,
Thanks for trying the app,
For the iPod touch missing thumbnails, it's just because these thumbnails are generated by the iPhone itself while taking photos. (THM file). I know, how frustrating it could be to have a list of random names of pictures.
I've started to think about a way to rotate the picture by another point that center but I still need to fix the zoom to do it properly. It's the next step before having a full rotating/zooming board.
Later.
Cedric.

Toujours aussi étonnant.
By June, at 12:15 AM
Brilliant!!!
One feature i would love would be to be able to move more than one pictures at the same time, that would really show off the Multitouch technology.
By Anonyme, at 1:44 AM
yeh. Is there any sign of you making this accessible for iPod touch photos? I I dont know how to put photos on. How do you get var and access iPod like that
By Anonyme, at 2:03 AM
I got a problem. If i install the photoboard app, the installer says its a update availible.. but its an older version (0.2.1) And the function to change the wallpaper doesent work for me.
I Got 1.1.2.. any fix?
By Anonyme, at 11:31 AM
Just to some it up:
Great job with this it is amazing
iPod touch photos
iPod touch thumbnails
Double tap back to normal size
Grid aswell as a list for pics
Zoom on any point
Can't wait for the next update, thanks.

Hiya, great improvement on 0.2.1,
thumbnails are missing for pictures saved on the iPhone as well...eg, wallpapers downloaded using iWallpaper from iappaday...however as you correctly state it is due to missing .thm (thumbnail) files. Any photos i have taken with the camera show as thumbnails :)
only 1 thing id like to see improved, the majority of wallpaper pics are taller then they are wide (320h x 240w) & should be viewed portrait, however, this app seems to show everything as 240h x 320w landscape mode... any chance of updating this in future releases?
excellent work tho :)
By Unknown, at 1:20 PM
sorry, to add, ...
that bug only seems to affect downloaded / added pics.
pics taken with camera are shown correctly....hmmm, wonder why that is??
By Unknown, at 1:23 PM
Bonne continuation,
Bonne annee depuis le Vietnam

It would be awesome if you could load pictures out of your pictures folder (the one synced thru itunes) just how you can load them in the sketch app- for iPhone and iPod Touch as well. Being able to load pictures from the camera roll is good for iPhone users but not so good for Touch users. Having access to the user's entire photo library with the click of a button would be amazing for everyone....
then again you're giving this away and it's badass as is, so don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining! Only trying to make a suggestion! Keep up the great work!
By Anonyme, at 1:44 PM
One more suggestion... you should put up a little link to your paypal.. to give those of us who may want to donate a little something to emphasize our thanks, a chance to. Lord knows I'd make a donation.
By Anonyme, at 1:57 PM
By eternal404, at 2:30 PM
Where is the update? Don't see it under installer... :-(
By Alexis, at 1:53 AM
Would be nice to have the ability to close a particular picture. A quick swipe to the left of right a la minority report would be awesome.
By Anonyme, at 1:45 AM

Hi, this is great, but there is one feature that is really needed: persistence of the photo board between exiting and re-entering the program.
I imagine you could probably save this info in some kind of metadata file (XML). Also, you could copy the files from the /var/root/Media/DCIM folder when you load them into the photo board into their own photo board directory; this way the board persists even when pictures are deleted from the camera roll.
Other operations could then be available for pictures in the photo board. This could turn into a really great little scrapbooking app :)
By J D, at 8:45 AM
I love the app!!! But why can I only choose to add pictures from the picture roll and not the ones that I sync from iTunes?
By Unknown, at 12:49 PM
?
By Unknown, at 12:50 PM
Wow, cedric, really awesome! I especially love the round menu.
The only bigger problem is (on my iPod touch) that the images are loaded with a strange distortion (the heights & widths are exchanged: the width is now the height and the height the width).
Something different: If you gave me the source, I'm pretty sure I could do the not-in-the-center-rotation in a few minutes*.
Choo
* a few minutes = very likely several hours of fighting with my computer/my itouch ;-)
By Choo, at 2:56 PM
@wicked:
You've got the wrong folder.
The correct path is /private/var/root/Media/DCIM/100APPLE
Btw, the folder should exist, also on the iPod touch.
PS. I've had some french in school but uh... I think it'll be better if I stick to English. But hey, it was enough to understand your question ^^
By Choo, at 3:04 PM
Hey Jasamer, it's nice to see you there :-)
The main reason I haven't published the sources yet is because I've started to code the app quickly, c-stylish and without commenting. I would need to rewrite it from scratch to make it usable/readable.
Though, I can send you the app sources with extra comments and focus on the multitouch part.
You can send me your email adress at : cedric.villa-at-gmail.com and I'll send you it via mail.

I've just managed to load pictures from the native photo library, so it should be more confortable for both iPod Touch/ iPhone users in the next version. (I still have a trouble to get the full sized picture, I just have a screen sized one...argg).
Later.
Cédric.

Hi
Hope the holiday season was great for you and that 2008 is treating you well so far.
Just a quick note to say we mentioned Photoboard in our post on Great Apps for iPhone newcomers to check out, here:

Cheers …

this is a MUST for future photoboards.. double tap on any icon to zoom it to full screen. once in fullscreen mode you can use your finger to FLIP through the photos just like apples photo browser.. double tap to bring it back to the photoboard desktop.. also in zoom mode it reacts to the tilt of the iphone letting you look either landscape or portrait mode.
By Anonyme, at 4:02 AM
